Started a New Book - First couple of pages - Sneak Peak

Book Title: Rendezvous

Sliding open the glass door he stepped out to the back porch of his house.

“Close the door. It is cold” said Julia.

“Yes it is”. He stepped back inside and shut the door. He looked around in the room. There were quite a few people in the room. There was Julia, his co-worker. In fact she worked for him.

“So when is your last day at work?” That was Anthony. He was Julia’s boyfriend. He was a Personal Trainer at the Gym he frequented when he felt like.

“It was yesterday”

“So you are done huh”

“Yes. I am done. Done. Done. Done”. That was quite an emphasis. He looked around again for the people in the room. Mark and Anna were there. Anna was his boss till yesterday. Mark worked in the same company and was a VP as well. He had worked for Anna for the last 14 months. She had been a good boss. They both learnt a lot from each other. And there was Marco, Sylivia, Kristina, Sean and Shelly. They were his friends from his MBA program he had met 4 years ago. Ironically, none of them was dating one another. They just were a fun bunch of people who loved to have fun. And then there were his neighbors. Mark and Janette, Kimberly and Ken and Lani. Lani lived just across from him. Lani was probably his best friend too. He had known her for 7 years now. “If we get tired of living across from each other, we will start living besides each other”. That was what had become their common thing to say at the social events. He knew and Lani knew that they both were going to miss each other very much.

“Do you really have to go?”. Lani had put her hand into his and was resting her head on his shoulders.

“How many times have we had this conversation now?”

“Plenty”

“And my answer has been”

“Honey it is not that I do not want to stay here. But I want to move away from the things that made me take this decision”

“Exactly. And you still have to ask me”

“That is because I will miss you”

“I will miss you too. But I am not gone from Earth. Yet”

She gripped his hand. “Now I don’t want you to start that sobbing episode. Not in front of so many people” he said.

“I won’t. Because I know that if I cry, you will cry too”.

“Great”. He grimaced and then embraced her patting her on the back as she sobbed and shook. He tried not to make eye contact with the people who were looking at them. From the corner of his eye he saw Kimberly walk up to them

“Oh! Sweety. Don’t cry. I know you are sad”. Hearing this Lani had left his embrace and was now holding Kimberly and sobbing.

“Come on Guys. You can’t be sad and try to celebrate my retirement”

“Let’s pop another bottle of champagne”. That was Marco, the heavy weight of the gang.

There was a loud pop and the cork went flying up and hit the ceiling. He looked at the green bottle of champagne. The fizz flowing out and Marco was trying really hard to hold back the drip from falling on the carpet. Sylvia and others were holding up their champagne flutes to fill it up.

The party was just getting warmed up. And there were still people to come. And there were many boxes to pack. Gregory M Hill was ready to begin to start a new chapter in a new town. New Language, New Country and a slightly recurring fear.

A Tribute to my Dad

My Dad passed away 7 and 1/2 years ago. And each passing day I get to remember him in more deeper essence.

I happened to write a Tribute to him, in spirit so that I could tell him how much he meant to me and what he meant to be himself.

Sharing it with you all.

From My First Book

Hey:

Here is a passage from my First Book (No, not published!) Speaking to the Frames:

I waited in the lobby. I picked up the magazine that lay on the table. It had been 15 odd minutes that I had been waiting. This was my third trip to this facility. All I needed was an antibiotic and that had followed up with a blood test. And then the same day, another blood test.

“The doctor will see you now” said the medical assistant as she stood across from me. “Thank you” I said as I got up and followed her behind the reception Counter to the back of the facility. She made me enter the doctor’s room. She left closing the door behind her. I looked across at the desk. There were all kinds of stuff lying on the desk. These medical reps must be really desperate to have their medicine prescribed. I noticed a nice and expensive looking clock on the desk. It had a monogram of some company inscribed on the dial. I looked at the wall and saw this big hanging chart of a man and a woman and the whole deal. Nerves, Organs, Bones, Muscle etc., is what they were dressed up in.

“Good Evening” said the doctor entering the room. “Hello” I said as I got up and shook his hands. “Please sit” said the doctor as he lay down his stethoscope on the desk, took of his gown and hung it on his leather chair. That too I though might be a gift from those medical reps. He sat down and opened a folder that lay in front of him

“I do not know where and how to start” said the doctor, now making me start feeling nervous. “Did I have an infection that had worsened?” I thought. Nah I argued as I was feeling fit. Only this damn cough and cold would not go. “I have to say it and I know it is going to be a little tough for you. It is not confirmed yet. We will have to some more tests to really prove it” he said. “What is it?” I asked as I knelt on the desk on my elbows. “I am sorry to say that you might have Leukemia”

The world came shattering down. It seemed like the whole world had stopped. And I was spinning in it. It gripped me. My mouth went dry. “What?” I screamed out loud.

All of a sudden my life seemed so precious. I did not want to die. I wanted to breathe in every wisp of air that breezed past me. But I knew that my next address would be Written on the Wind.

“Fill me in your eyes, as much as you can, Take a heart full glance,
Lay me on the soft sheets of satin, put a soft down pillow underneath me,
Sing to me my favorite song, Paint me a picture I wish to dream,
Hold my hands in yours tight and let me stay here awake tonight.

When the sun sets, sit by me on the beach, watching the hues of red and grey,
When the stars glitter, walk with me barefoot, making footmarks in the sand,
When the moon peeks out of the cloud, look into my eyes,
Whisper to me a few words of hope, that I will be fine.

Woven in tranquility is a melody that I will sing,
Painted in air is a picture that I will paint,
Washed in the clear sky is the satin sheet I will lay on,
Memories will be the pillow that I will rest my head onto,
And if you need to know where I live, just ask the wind….for it is written on it.”

Welcome Aboard

Hey:

Had been planning on setting my blog up for a while. Well, finally tis here and guess will be here for some time.

Just a note: This is not going to be a Daily Journal of mine. It will not be a Diary. I am not into Journal Writing.

What will it be about? Well, I guess I intend to share my writings and expressions and invite honest criticism, appreciation and suggestions to them.

Holidays are in full swing. Hope you all are having a good one.

Take it easy and have a fun filled memorable remaining days of this year....
